My goal is to focus on providing care for individuals who may be hesitant to start or return to therapy. Many of my clients express concerns that their identity, relationship style, gender expression, or spiritual beliefs (or lack thereof) may be met with judgement, dismissal, misunderstanding, or pathologization. I strive to create an open, accepting, and non-judgment environment to explore thinking and behavior patterns with curiosity and empathy, identify more effective skills to cope with stressors, and develop a greater sense of self-worth, confidence, and trust. Because client confidentiality and privacy are so important, I do not use AI services in any part of my practice.
Treatment Focuses
01.
Mental Health Treatment
Disorders I commonly treat:
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- Major Depressive Disorder
- Social Anxiety Disorder
- Bipolar I/Bipolar II
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Gender Dysphoric Disorder
02.
Trauma Processing
I use aspects of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), interpersonal therapy, and narrative therapy to challenge internalized beliefs, explore the impact of trauma on relationships, and re-contextualize trauma, focusing on resilience and meaning-making. My primary expertise is in sexual and religious trauma.
03.
Relationship Skill-Building
Whether your relationship style is monogamous, open, poly, ethically non-monogamous, swing, queer platonic, strictly casual, asexual, aromantic, or none of the above, social connections are critical to our wellbeing, and conflict or stress in our close relationships can negatively impact our overall mental health. All are welcome here!
04.
LGBTQ+ Identity Exploration
My passion is working with members of the queer community. You may be interested in exploring sexual orientation, gender expression, and/or relationship styles as your primary focus in treatment, or those aspects of self may exist simply as background for other therapy work, my goal is to create an environment of authenticity and safety in the therapy room.
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU PLAN ON USING INSURANCE BENEFITS TO PAY FOR SESSIONS:
Insurance companies require me to submit a diagnosis of at least one mental health condition for each covered session. Every session, I will submit a claim to your insurance company that includes any relevant diagnoses and the billing code for the session type – typically 90837 – 60 minute psychotherapy. I am also required to document a therapy note for each session. While therapy notes are not submitted along with the claim, your insurance company is allowed to request therapy notes in the case of an audit. To protect client privacy, I keep therapy notes as general as possible while still fulfilling the required documentation. If you have any concerns about diagnoses, information that your insurance company will have access to, or any other questions about your privacy, please feel free to ask.
Finding the right therapist for you is critical for long-term success in therapy. I offer free, 15-minute phone consultations to discuss your goals, answer initial questions, discuss my approach, and assess if we are a good fit.
About Me
Hi, I’m Emily! I am a sex-positive, kink-friendly, non-religious therapist. My passion is working with members of the LGBTQ+ community and their loved ones. This includes clients who are newly exploring their sexuality, gender identity, and relationship styles, as well as those seeking support for mental health concerns in an inclusive, accepting space. I enjoy working with clients on deconstructing faith, healing from religious trauma, and exploring their identity from a place of non-judgement, curiosity, and authenticity. It’s my goal to empower clients to let go of internalized shame and build strength through community and self-love.
